Adhesion

We offer analytical solutions for Dispersions, Particles and Coatings, which includes: (1) Characterization of the formulation in original concentration to investigate the separation behaviour; (2) Droplet size distribution, Particle size distribution, Density distribution, Particle properties and interactions and (3) Determination of adhesive and bonding strength for coatings and different composite materials. This product line is manufactured by LUM with headquarters in Berlin.

The direct and accelerated stability analysis of emulsions and suspensions as well as the comprehensive characterization of particles properties can be performed by means of space- and time-resolved extinction profiles (STEP Technology) determination over the entire sample length. All information on creaming, sedimentation, flocculation, coalescence or phase separation processes are represented by the progression of the transmission profiles as a function of time. Based on these space- and time-resolved extinction profles demixing kinetics such as clarification velocity, sedimentation and flotation velocity of particles, residual turbidity, separated phase volume (liquid/liquid, liquid/solid …), sediment consolidation or dewaterability and particle size distributions are measured.

One example on this product line is: LUMiSizer , the All-in-One Dispersion Analyzer. This high-end dispersion analyzer is a complete dispersion lab, all in one instrument. The Analytical Centrifuge has been developed to speed up and accurately predict the stability and rheological behavior of nano- and microscale dispersions and simultaneously calculate the particle size distribution.

The Adhesion properties of adhesive bonded joints, coated samples, and other bonded interfaces are performed using Centrifugal Adhesion Testing Technology (CAT) on fracture analyzer LUMiFrac (winner of the Berlin-Brandenburg 2012 innovation award). In addition to measuring pull-off forces under various stresses and temperature conditions, also shear strength can be determined. The applied stress profile can be varied by the user, as can other operational parameters like for example absolute final load, the rate of load increase, length of measuring time, and temperature.
